Or may be you want to look if there is somebody logged in whith the Modem, you can also use Netlistener. With Netlistener you can run Applications on disconnection or on connection from Computers on your network. It also loggs the status of your Computers or devices which you are watching.Netlistener is pinging the watching device, if the ping isn't working, the netlistener means the device is not connected. (This is on some Firewalls not working) It is running as a service, that means, it is also started if you not logged on. If you use a Webserver, Netlistener can create a html statusfile for you.
